Understanding Pro Tools (UPT) is over 3 hours of HD video downloads. In these videos, I carefully walk you through Pro Tools.
Having spent hundreds of hours using Pro Tools over the years, I know it like the back of my hand. I learned from some of the best. In fact, I hold a bachelor’s degree in recording technology.
More importantly, I have tons of experience in front of Pro Tools, from big HD systems to my 003-based home studio.
Pro Tools is an incredible recording platform. It’s sleek and powerful. However, if you’ve never had someone walk you through it, you might be lost. You probably know that there are some powerful features under the hood, but you just don’t know how to go about using them.
I’m here to help.
My name is Joe Gilder, owner and founder of HomeStudioCorner.com.
I’ve been making music out of my own home studio with Pro Tools for years.
I discovered that I also have a talent for teaching this stuff, so I launched HSC and started creating tutorial articles and videos. I tend to explain things in a way that makes people have that “light bulb” moment, where things just “click” and they finally “get it.”
Other things you should know about me: I’m happily married, and we have two cats.
Understanding Pro Tools includes 9 HD QuickTime movie files. These are yours to download and keep. After placing your order, you’ll be downloading the videos in a matter of minutes. The total video content is around 3 hours and 20 minutes.
Let me walk you through what you can expect from each video (and what you’ll get out of each).
This introductory video explains what I’ll be covering over the course of UPT and gives a basic overview of Pro Tools itself.
Topics Covered:
There are five different track types in Pro Tools. I explain what each one does and why you would want to use one track type over another. The track types are:
The Mix Window is probably the most “comfortable” window for new Pro Tools users. It looks like a mixer, but there are a lot of things you need to know if you want to use the Mix Window effectively.
Topics covered:
The Edit Window is where I spend the majority of my time when working in Pro Tools. You have access to almost every feature from the mix window in addition to being able to see/manipulate the audio files themselves.
Topics covered:
In this video I show you how to actually arm and record both audio and MIDI. I’ll actually be singing and playing keyboard in this video, so you can see it happening in the real world.
Topics covered:
Between recording and mixing a song, you’ve got a lot of work to do to get those tracks ready for mixing. That’s called editing. In this video I’ll clear up some of the mystery behind the elusive topic of editing.
Topics covered:
While this video isn’t intended to TEACH you how to get a good-sounding mix, I do show you all the mechanics of setting up and bouncing your mix.
Topics covered:
After talking about mixing, it only makes sense to briefly explain what mastering is. Some folks don’t know what to do once they’re finished with their mix. Mastering is a huge task, and it’s something you might be better off having someone else do for you, but this video is here if you want to know the steps for mastering at home.
How it will help you: You’ll have a basic understanding of what people mean when they say “mastering.”
This video might be one of the most useful videos. In it I go through all of the many preference settings in Pro Tools, pointing out the ones you should pay attention to. I also share with you a few fixes for common problems.
How it will help you: Should you encounter problems with Pro Tools in the future (and we all do from time to time), this video will likely save you from hours of frustration.
If you’re ready to gain a better, working knowledge of Pro Tools, you can order now. You’ll be watching videos in a matter of minutes. Your order will be processed via Paypal. You can pay via Paypal or simply with a credit card.
